Quick guide
A heartfelt thank you to Sonja Lechtenbörger | ZFF Dortmund & Witten | for the professional explanatory video!
Always protect yourself and your patients with your glasses. This is important when trimming the wire with the MCI side cutters!
To estimate the bending point for the hook to lock it in place below the nail, place the clip with the connecting end (S-bend) about 2.5 mm (by eye) from the highest point of the nail surface.
Hold the brace blank firmly with the MCI holding pliers and bend the wire end 180 degrees using the MCI bending pliers. This step prepares the hook for locking below the nail.
Trim the end of the brace with the MCI side cutters. CAUTION: Both patient and therapist must wear safety goggles! To prevent flying wire ends, place your finger over the end you are cutting.
Now adjust the leg of the brace between the omega and the hook to the curve of the nail. To do this, pull the leg either over one jaw of the MCI round-nose pliers or over the surface of one jaw of the MCI bending pliers. This image already shows the desired result.
Now deburr the end of the wire.
Now carefully twist the first leg of the brace under the nail.
Use the MCI side cutters to trim the excess wire on this leg behind the S-bend. The S-bend is used for threading the U-loop later and must be kept as small as possible. CAUTION: Both patient and therapist must wear safety goggles! To prevent flying wire ends, place your finger on the end you are cutting.
To do this, repeat the steps described above for the second leg of the clasp.
Thread the U-loop into the two lower S-bends of the legs. Three-part orthodox brace. The two legs of the brace represent parts 1 and 2 of the three-part orthonyxia brace. To complete the application, add part 3, the U-loop.
You'll need both hands! Press the two S-bends together with your thumb and index finger. This will create the tension, which you then simply secure with the U-loop. With your other hand, grasp the two eyes of the U-loop with the hook of the MCI winch hook and begin rotating the winch hook, thus rotating both necks of the U-loop. Rotate until the patient just feels the tension – WITHOUT PAIN.
Trim the excess wire ends as far as possible using the MCI side cutters. CAUTION: Both patient and therapist must wear safety goggles! To prevent flying wire ends, place your finger over the end you are cutting.
To protect your stockings and shoes, seal the knot with the light-curing UNGUISAN Blue Light Gel. We also have the gel available for you.
You can easily achieve the drop shape of the gel seal with the resealable dosing syringe.
We also have the BLUE Light lamp available for you.
Disinfect the entire work area. Finally, tampon the folds on the right and left sides.
You can see the final result after curing and disinfection.
Open the brace with the MCI side cutters. Cut only the U-shaped loop connecting the two arms.
Only cut the loop of the U-loop connecting the two brace legs. The already well-formed brace legs will be reused in the subsequent brace application. Only the now destroyed U-loop will be replaced with a new U-loop. Since the brace is applied a total of five to six times, the average ratio is 1:5 (1 brace to 5 U-loops) for an entire application. After five to six applications of the brace legs – this corresponds to a period of approximately 24-30 weeks – the application should be successfully closed. Otherwise, a new brace must be used, as the material will then be fatigued.
Carefully twist the two arms of the brace towards you so that you can then remove them from under the nail without causing any pain for the patient.
Remove any remaining hardener from the brace legs and then prepare them for autoclaving.
Ready to reuse for the first touch-up. Touch-ups are typically performed every four to six weeks—and up to five times in total. In particularly difficult cases, the treatment period may be longer. Typically, the unguis incarnatus is successfully treated after about six months—without lasting cosmetic impairment and gently, i.e., painlessly.
Since you destroyed the old U-loop when opening the brace, you now need a new U-loop to replace it.
